A National Park Made for Kids Who Love to Explore
When you’re traveling with a kid who loves to climb, run, and ask a million questions, not every stop hits the mark… but Arches National Park absolutely did.
From the moment we arrived, Scarlett was in her element—wide open spaces, giant red rocks, and endless places to explore. It wasn’t just a “look and walk” kind of park… it was a move, climb, discover kind of place—and that made all the difference.
One of the biggest highlights for Scarlett was becoming an official Junior Ranger at Arches. For a kid who already loves nature, animals, and learning how things work, the Junior Ranger program turned the entire park into one big adventure mission. She loved working through the activity workbook, spotting details around the park, and learning more about the incredible rock formations and wildlife. In true Scarlett fashion, she especially enjoyed doing her “important ranger work” while sitting high up among the rocks at what she called the “top of the world.” The workbook helped keep her focused and engaged throughout the day, while still feeling fun and exciting—and earning that Junior Ranger badge at the end was a VERY big deal.
Scarlett’s Take
Scarlett quickly decided this was her favorite national park from our entire trip—and honestly, I get it.
She loved that she could:
Climb on rocks (safely, of course 😉)
Run freely without feeling boxed in
Spot wildlife like chipmunks
Explore without being told “don’t touch” every five seconds
Her exact words:
“I like this one because I can climb and there are rocks everywhere!”
And if you know Scarlett… that checks all the boxes.
👨👩👧 Mom & Dad Perspective
From a parent standpoint, Arches was a win for so many reasons.
There’s something really special about a place that lets kids learn by doing instead of just observing. Scarlett wasn’t just looking at nature—she was interacting with it, asking questions, and making connections the whole time.
It also felt manageable. You don’t have to hike miles to enjoy it. There are plenty of pull-offs and short walks that still give you incredible views and experiences.
And bonus: it’s one of those places that’s just as beautiful for adults as it is fun for kids.
